2 Corinthians 3:2-3 “You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you area a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

I enjoy reading the newspaper weekly, simply because it helps me to stay in tuned with what is happening in our city and especially in getting the latest on my Chicago White Sox. As I read the paper, I can’t help but notice the headliners that the journalists make in order grab the attention of the reader. If the headline is catchy, more people will be willing to read. So, the headline is the first thing the people read before the actual article.

When Paul wrote this to the Corinthian church, he wanted them to know that their character and how they lived their lives would be headliners to others. That by seeing them, people would know they were students of Paul and followers of Jesus Christ. Another good analogy in today’s world might be a certificate of ordination, but a piece of paper in itself never is a proper credential. The true credentials of the ministry are changed lives or living epistles (Letters).

Jeremiah 31:33 “this it’s the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after that time declares the Lord, I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts I will be their God and they will be my people.”

We are the physical representation of the invisible God! This is a pretty big deal! To be people that are letters for others to read, is what Paul wants the church to know. We are the first glimpse at times for people to know what Christianity is about. People are more willing to read our lives before they even open up and read the bible.

I hope this encourages you to know that when Paul is saying this, it doesn’t mean that we have to walk straight and narrow, but he wants us to understand that we are living testimonies to others so that they would know the love and mercy of our God!

Prayer: Lord, I first want to take the time to thank you for allowing us to be letters for your kingdom. As we are living testimonies of your love, mercy and grace, may we shine for you in such a way that others would come to know you as Lord.  Help us to live this day with you in mind and let this be more of an inspiration to live a life that is worth reading! Amen.
