Psalms 42:1As the deer pants for the water brooks,So pants my soul for You, O God.My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.When shall I come and appear before God?My tears have been my food day and night,While they continually say to me,“Where is your God?”

When one reads this psalms it is important to understand that the psalmist is writing these words as he sees the deer, but also from a sense of great need. The person finds themselves distant from God’s house and discouraging words towards them have brought upon them a deep sense of despair. Many times, people will say to you “where is your God” when things are not going your way, but this psalm talks about how the deer pants and searches for the waters.

To an animal the water is vital because when there is lack of water they begin to dehydrate. The first things that tend’s to decrease is the ability to see, then the legs begin to weaken, and the mouth gets dry, and the animal begins to smell.

As humans we are made up of 60% water, so as we may live with over 90 days without food it is said that we can only live up to 3 days without water. The psalmist understands that the water represents the presence of God, and we too must understand our need to search and desire communication with God. If we are going to have the resurgence that we need then we must have a continues desire for the presence and living water that God provides for his saints. WE must draw closer to the waters so that in returning to these waters, God may bring the resurgence we need in our vision, our walks, our voices, and that we may be cleansed from the smell of sin from our lives.

Prayer: “Lord, today I pray that we may have a great desire to run towards your waters. May we find ourselves daily in your presence so that we can have that resurgence that is needed for this new year. We need you more than ever Lord, have your way in us.  Amen”
