A few years ago, our youth group went out to “starved rock,” which is an area where you can hike and enjoy nature. Our hike was a total 12 miles (there and back). Our goal was to get to a waterfall that was in starved rock. While we hiked, many became tired, many sweaty and some complained. Some others discussed how excited they were to get to the waterfall. We kept moving forward. The youth group was determined to get refreshed and enjoy the waterfall. Every step we took closer to the end the greater the desire grew. The moment arrives, We get to the spot where the waterfall was supposed to be. As a result, there is barely any water falling. Many got disappointed and just sat to the side. But in the end, about half of the youth group got into the water and enjoyed the reward of the mini waterfall. See, many times during our own personal journey we can get tired, sweaty and complain as well. But although it may be realistically tiring and hard, we can remain with a positive attitude and a joyful approach as some youth did on their journey to the waterfall. In James 1:2-4 says “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” Endurance is key to finishing our race strong. But we have a choice to have a journey with a complaining attitude or take the opportunity to rejoice and be joyful knowing that the journey is a test and it’s producing something good out of us.

Questions:
1.How are you being tested in your faith today?
2.What u-turn do you need to make in your journey? What simple steps will you take to stay on track?
3.How can you intentionally encourage others in their journey?
