Matthew 27: 51-53 “At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split, and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people."

This text of the death and resurrection of Jesus is so dramatic. I love the word pictures and can actually see it. But from these, the one that sticks out to me the most is the ‘dead people who rose to life’ who did not come out of their tombs until Jesus resurrected and left his tomb.

This is a great beginning to our devotion of the Resurrected Life. When Paul wrote about us being resurrected with Christ and putting our minds above earthly things (Colossians 3) this is exactly what he was trying to point out. We cannot live in the tombs anymore.

The tomb symbolizes dead thinking, dead living, dead circumstances, dead dreams, and dead lifestyles. These bodies leaving the tomb is a clear indicator that this is part of the resurrected life. We cannot have a new life while our minds in the tomb. We have to leave those negative mentalities as well.

Have you been raised with Christ?  Then you too must no longer live in the tomb. Walk out and live your new life. This first part is vital, and I pray that it is a good reminder of how we must leave those old things and begin with the new! Get out of that tomb!

Prayer: Lord I take the time to make a declaration over my mind and over my life. Since you were raised to life and walked out of that tomb, I declare that I am in unity with you as well. Lord today we declare that we will no longer live in the tombs of doubt or despair or death, but we will now live a life of victory and honor. Amen.
