2020 was certainly a year that brought many emotions out of us. In the midst of a pandemic many of us experienced fear, guilt, loneliness, hatred, happiness, and sadness as a result of a loved ones passing.

Fast forward and we are now in 2021. There seems to be a sense of hope with a vaccine that has been created for the COVID virus., but is that all your hoping for or do you have other goals to attain? What are the short or long-term goals that you have set? Lose weight, save money, quit smoking, pray more, get organized or maybe read the Bible in whole?

Whatever it is, you are determined to get it done.

One of my goals this year is to find peace in myself that surpasses all understanding. How can that be attained?

In Philippians 4. Paul is talking to the church of Philippi (from prison) and encouraging them to stand firm in their faith. Paul is telling them that he is modeling Christ humility and that they too should do the same. He later tells them that they should not listen to those people that bring up their past but instead show them the new creation that they are in Christ. Paul then tells them to rejoice and do not be anxious of anything, but in every situation prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your request to God. Chapter 4:7 says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So we can attain this peace that surpasses all understanding through prayer, petition and fasting. If Paul tells us that we are to model Jesus then in reading Gods word I know that He attained this through his constant communication with the Father. Even up to his last hours while on the Cross, Jesus was talking to His Father. Remember that God tells us not to worry because nothing is impossible for Him. God is with us in all our situations and will bring us peace if we ask of him.

Prayer:  “Lord, today we pray that we model the humility of your son Jesus Christ. We pray that we not go back to what people called us, but instead move forward to who you have called us to be. Lord we ask that you strengthen our minds and hearts to remember that you are our counselor, provider and healer in the midst of our situations. We need you more than ever Lord, have your way in us.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen”
