Genesis 15:5 “He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars- if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him “So shall your offspring be.”

Star gazing is something I enjoy doing when I’m out camping.  Whenever I take my dog out for a walk at night, I enjoy looking at the stars, constellations, and even the moon. The view outside is just an awesome reminder of how big God really is.

In Genesis 15:5, an interesting thing happens that I suppose many may read and not put much thought to it. The bible states that “He took him outside and said, Look Up!” While Abraham was inside his tent and looked up all he could see was the ceiling of his tent.  He was unable to see the promise for his life as long as he had the 8ft ceiling over him. That is why God had to take him outside to see the promise from a different perspective.

What are the things blocking you from seeing the grand picture of God’s promise for your life today? It may not be a tent, but maybe it’s a worry, maybe it’s a bill, or even a closed-up mindset. Today God is inviting you to come out of those situations so that you can see how big, and how grand His thoughts are for your life.

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 55:8-9 which says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

All of this can start by you taking an outside view of whatever you find yourself in today!

Prayer: Lord, help us see past our own physical and spiritual ceilings. Give us the help to see beyond what is in front of us, so that we can move forward with what you have called us to do. As we are unable to comprehend the depth or height of your promise, help us as we break out of those things that try to distract our view of who you are in our lives. We thank you Lord that it was you who took Abraham outside so that he could have a better view of the promises you had for him, and it is you that does the same for us! Amen.
