“Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;” Isaiah 58:9
If you read the verses previous to this one you will see Isaiah exposing all that the children of Israel were doing. They were a people chosen by God but that lived like they had no God. They broke God’s laws over and over again and God is so amazing that He forgave them over and over again.
In this chapter God, through Isaiah calls once again to the people of Israel to change their ways. He tells them that if they repent and begin to do His will then when they call, He will answer. The call is inevitable. He knows we will call out to Him but weather He answers or not will depend on how faithful we are being to His word.
Truth is most of us want to live like we did before we were Christians, call on God and see Him move in our behalf. We want to pray only when the pastor is watching, fast once a year with the rest of the church, and dust off our Bibles during the sermon yet see the sick getting healed and lame walking. Then we stop going to church mad at God when He doesn’t do those things. When, the times we pray He doesn’t answer.
Let me share a secret. God is not worried about your prayers if they’re only done to show off. He’s not interested in your fasts when you’re announcing them so all will see how spiritual you are.
God is looking for those who pray, fast, read the word for HIM and not for their own recognitions. He sees the intentions of your heart. He knows your motives. When you begin to do things for Him and show your faith through your works, “then you will call, and the Lord will answer.”
Prayer: Lord, forgive me for making this about me. Help me know Your ways and through me may Your name be glorified. Amen
Question:
1)When you fast does anyone know?
2) Why do you pray?
3) How often do you study scripture?
