Genesis 5:22-24 “After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
The Bible is filled with mysteries, and the story of Enoch is one of them. How is it that he could walk with God and become no more? We don’t know much about his life because we are not given much to work with except that he “was commended as one who pleased God.” (Hebrews 11:5).
Faith was the cause of this man’s disappearance, and it could be the same for us (spiritually speaking), if we seek the Lord as Enoch did after his experience at age 65. We don’t know what was going on during the time of his age, but his son’s birth created a change in him that he was able to see God in a whole different way. God will use circumstances, events, or other occasions to grab our attention and make Himself known to our lives. To Enoch, it was Methuselah’s birth. To others it could be the same, or maybe even a tragedy, or something as small as someone paying your breakfast without you even knowing. What matters is that once Enoch had this experience, he took the action, and that is what Faith is, Action! In the book of Hebrews 11, the author tells us of the history of men and women that acted in faith and took action. Enoch’s faith pleased God, and “he was no more.” Could this be the ingredients of what it takes to be completely transformed into HIS image? Enoch, for the rest of his life (300 years) walked faithfully with God. It took him 300 years to be “no more”, and I still find myself crying to God to change me daily and I’m only 48! Which means I have way more to go!
Faith in following the Lord means a daily walk with God. In such a way that we too becom “no more.” No more selfishness, no more disobedience, no more doubting, no more fear, just no more of the old us. The old man or woman has disappeared, and we have become a new person. This type of total surrender in faith pleases God. Can this be your methuselah moment? The day you decided to leap in faith and run after God like never before? Why not now? Hey, Enoch started at age 65, so this goes to show you that it is never too late!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, as I reflect on the different moments that have been monumental in my life, non are like what I am feeling right now as I am actually writing this prayer. Lord, I rededicate my life to you. I want to declare to myself today, before my actions do the rest. I am yours Lord, help me as I choose this day to walk deeper with you, and walk with you as you have always desired me to do. Make me into the person you want me to be, and may I follow those steps as Enoch did, and learn as he did each day that made him more intrigued to take on the next! Amen.
