“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29

We now live in a culture inside the church that increasingly wants to be seen more and more. They want to be known for their exuberant displays of revivals and miraculous signs. They speak differently, walk differently and even shout in man made toungues to seem more spiritual. But believing isn’t always so.

When Jesus told John to write a letter to the church in Philadelphia, He specifically said, “I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.” Revelation 3:8 Jesus proceeds to tell the church that because they have kept His word even with the little strength they had, they will receive the crown of life, be set as pillars in the temple, have His name and God’s name written on them, AND all those who have been lying about their faith will bow down to them AND know that Jesus loves them. What a picture!

Strength in this passage of Revelation means miraculous power in its original. This church lived among false prophets, false teachers, dead Christians, false gods, power hungry politicians, corrupted churches, persecution, and the list goes on. They were fighting to stay faithful to God’s word while everyone must have thought they had lost their mind. But even though they had little strength Jesus Himself says He appreciates what they’re doing and their position. Through this He was giving strength to the weary hearts and increasing the power of the weak. During their time, as a result, the gospel reached new and greater distances than ever before. God moved in their little strength because they persevered in their faith.

It’s not about how much faith we have, how strong we are, how much influence. It’s about our position to persevere in the truth of the gospel and not deny Jesus no matter what comes our way. That’s really when Jesus uses the little to do amazing things through us.

Prayer: “Lord, I come to You today weary and tired. All around me I see people being blessed while not keeping Your word, yet here I am, trying to persevere the best I can but nothing seems to happen. Please Lord, use the little strength that I have so others can see You. Make me a pillar, a foundation in the church so other’s faith can be strengthened. Thank you for seeing me where I am and accepting the little I have to give. Stay with me here today, Lord. Amen”
