Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

A young man had an illness that cost him his left arm. He struggled with his confidence because he saw the other kids in his community with both of their arms, which reminded him constantly of what he was missing. His dad then decided to encourage him and motivate him to get involved in sports. The young man didn’t think he could do any because of his condition, so the father began to teach him wrestling. He got so involved in wrestling he connected him to a coach who would teach him over and over the same move The young man asked his trainer “why haven’t you taught me any other moves?” The coach wouldn’t answer his question but only continued to teach the student until he felt he had mastered the one move.

The coach then encouraged the student to join a tournament and he did well until he was matched with one kid who was much stronger and bigger than him. The coach went up to the student and told him to use the move they practiced over and over. When the whistle blew it looked as if the young man was no match for the bigger and stronger opponent, and after some time of battling and looking defeated, the young man was able to do the move he was taught and won the match.

After the match the young man came up to the coach and said “coach I can’t believe I beat him, he was much stronger than me and more experienced. The coach looked at the young man and told him “you are right.”  “He was much stronger than you and a much skilled fighter, but there are only 2 reasons why you won. First, you were able to master the one move, and secondly, the only way for your opponent to overcome the one move you mastered, was to grab your left arm.”

Sometimes we just don’t understand why things happen in life. We tend to think we are not loved, or we begin to focus more on our inadequacies. We focus more on our limitations that we forget that God has called us with a purpose. We forget that with God all things are possible and at times he calls the weak things of this world to shame the strong. At times I think God likes to show off his glory through weaker vessels.

Be encouraged and know that God is always 10 steps ahead of you. Before something happens God already planned how he was going to use you for his glory. Be encouraged and know that you were called with a purpose. The one who called you also formed you and has already given you everything you need so that you can be successful for his glory!

Prayer:  God I thank you today for calling me and using me just as I am. When I thought I was lost or not good enough. When I thought the situation meant it was over for me, you already had a plan in place to use me for something much greater. Thank you for calling me and giving me purpose! Amen.
